Walking Football League Matches Dec 2019

From Max Lawton

A great day for the Walking Football squad today where we doubled our points tally for the season in one round of games. This week were the final games in the Autumn League and we knew we had to perform AND WE DID👍

Uppermill 1 Rochdale Wanderers 1

We started slowly and went a goal down,Tony also made a great save but then we clicked into gear. By my reckoning we had 6 great efforts against a very decent keeper then WALLY tucked the ball in the corner to level the score. We were the best team but couldn’t find the winner we deserved.

Uppermill 1 Northgate Rovers 0

Another game where we played some great football and went into a deserved lead. A great corner from Kelly picked out STUART who who drilled the ball hard and low into the far corner, Superb. Tony made a good save but we looked liked scoring every time we attacked with Kelly,Stu and Wally shooting just wide and the keeper made a great save off Wally after a sweeping move involving nearly all the team. A well deserved victory.

Moston Brook 0 Uppermill 1

We should have won by more than one goal. By this time the confidence was plain to see. It was like the old days with WALLY when he received the ball with his back to goal, turned his marker and smashed the ball into the back of the net, brilliant!! Efforts from Stu 3 times, Iain twice,Kelly twice and Wally could have produced more goals, a great team performance. Not forgetting Kev who kept the back door shut when Moston Brook tried to get back in the game meaning Tony hardly saw the ball.

Uppermill 3 Chorley FC Yellows 0

The very patient Steve and Barry came into the starting line up with no discernible difference. The team just carried on and without creating as many chances as the previous games we managed to record our biggest ever victory. WALLY scored 2, both going in off the post ( if memory serves me correctly, I was unable to write anything down as the rain got heavier!!) and STUART hitting one into the bottom corner. We kept the opposition quiet with Steve and Barry helping to preserve another clean sheet along with Tony.

Salcom 0 Uppermill 0

A tough game against a very capable Salcom team. They pass the ball to feet and move forward as a unit. Having said that we managed to restrict them to only limited chances with a very disciplined display and got forward ourselves on several occasions. Their players said afterwards that we were the best team they had played today. A fair result.

Overall a tremendous achievement. We settled on a style of play and shape where everyone knew what their role was and it showed in the consistentcy we had in all the games. Four clean sheets for Tony says everything about our defensive quality today.

Many thanks to the injured Graham, Neil and Dave who came along to support us as well as the ever present Michelle, what would we do without her 👍

Finally at the end of the Autumn League many thanks again to our kit sponsors, the Granby Arms and Pots and Pans Cottage.
